History of Poindexter
Lumber Company

Poindexter Lumber was founded by James Robert "J.R." Poindexter in 1908.  The business started
under the name of J.R. Poindexter and Son.  Building materials were sold.

Here are a few historical pictures of Poindexter Lumber.  More information and pictures to come.
A young J.R. Poindexter at around 20
years old, circa 1880.

At right is picture the old Jno. T.
Maffett Coal Company.  This picture
was taken in the late 1800s.  J.R.
Poindexter and Son purchase this
property and moved it over from the
railroad and back from the road.  In
1933, the lumber yard was built
around the largest part of the
building.  That part of the building still
exists and is now the nail room, glass
room and upstairs moulding room.
You can even still see the steeple on
top of the building.
Pictured here are two of the best
employees for J.R. Poindexter, Harold
Poindexter, Robert Poindexter and
Theodore Selin.  Jack Wright is standing
on the left.  Woody Boyers is standing
on the right.  This picture was taken in
the late 1940s.

This is a picture of our office building
pre-1950 when we were known as
J.R. Poindexter and Son.  J.R.'s son,
Robert Harold Poindexter, Sr,
known as Harold, is the gentleman in
the picture.
